4th of July Celebrations and Festivals in Covington, GA

The most anticipated celebration of the summer in Covington & Newton County is nearly here! Stars & Stripes Fest 2019, presented by the City of Covington and JACO Contracting, promises to bring festivities bigger and better than in years past. There is something for every member of the family, from food options galore and entertainment for the kids to special performances across music genres. Stars & Stripes Fest not only makes Covington a “Stay & Play” destination for Independence Day, but it is a great getaway spot to set the stage for your 4th of July getaway to Southeast Metro Atlanta. While you are in the area, don’t miss the many family-friendly and patriotic activities in Newton County.

Porterdale, Georgia

The river village of Porterdale beckons a crowd for their Independence in the Village celebration on Saturday, June 29th. In continued support of the Boys & Girls Club of North Central Georgia, the annual Duck Derby kicks off this event with 5,000 ducks racing down the Yellow River for the coveted $10,000 grand prize. Feel free to get in on the action and purchase your duck for only $20 at www.bgcncg.com/duckderby. The ducks launch at 8:00 PM, so don’t be late! Stick around after and head on over to the Downtown Alley, located right beside Porter Memorial Gymnasium, to enjoy fireworks and a Glow Dance Party with D.J. Prez.

Oxford Georgia

If you’d like to get in a little small-town fun before heading to Stars & Stripes Fest, check out the Independence Day Parade in the City of Oxford. The parade starts at 10:00 AM and is hosted by the Oxford Lions Club. Local neighborhood groups are encouraged to choose one of eight Mayor’s Award categories to participate in the parade. These brackets will range from equine to go-cart, for a shot at a 1st or 2nd place ribbon. Attendees are invited to partake in popcorn, watermelon, ham, and hot dogs while checking out the live band at the end of the parade route at Old Church

Covington, Newborn & Mansfield, Georgia

Stars & Stripes Fest 2019 kicks off in Covington, Ga at 3:00 PM. The Downtown restaurants will be open for a bite and some retail stores will have July 4th specials to enjoy. Admission for all to the festival is completely free, as in preceding years. Main Street Covington works hard to keep each member of the family in mind when pulling together the schedule of events, some with and without a fee. Keep the kids busy with the StarStream Game Truck, superheroes or princesses they can interact with, and inflatables while parents enjoy a diverse mix of live bands and vendors. Cool off with slushies, shaved ice, Italian ice, or soft serve ice cream from Scoops, Tropical Delights Little Jimmy's, and The Green Machine. Fill up with foods to suit anyone’s appetite from turkey legs from Bradley’s BBQ to gator on a stick from Monster Foods! Other options include:

• Chick-fil-A sandwiches
• Johnny’s Pizza
• Pace Masonic Lodge #558 hotdogs, boiled peanuts, and assorted concessions
• Desserts from Christy’s Concessions and K&N Delectable Delights

As the sun sets from a full day of family fun, get ready to go out with more than just a bang. Friends of Covington Fireworks, Inc. light up the sky again for the eighth year in a row with an impressive firework display that brought out more than 50,000 locals and visitors last year alone. Friends of Covington Fireworks, LLC, a non-profit organization established to support the annual event each year, receive ample donations from the City of Covington, the Town of Newborn, and the City of Mansfield that helps bring a firework show that rivals that of any you’d see in the big city.

Because of its international appeal to locals and tourists alike, Stars & Stripes Fest landed on the Southeast Tourism Society’s Top 20 Festival & Event listing for the month of July. This is quite the nod when taking into consideration the expanse of 12 states this acknowledgment covers.
