Bite Night: Covington Celebrates The Vampire Diaries

That’s a wrap, folks! The blood has been spilled, the coffin has closed, and Season 7 of The Vampire Diaries is no more. The finale was breathtaking but the real event was Bite Night 2016. All the spooks joined us on the square for the shindig of the season. Covington, Georgia was transformed into Mystic Falls for the evening and even the local restaurants were getting on the vampiric action.

The party started very early in the day, with the Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express offering discounted rates for the weekend. Fans from across the nation flocked to Mystic Falls on Friday to “stake” out their viewing spots for the live finale event. Some were out on the square as early as 1:00pm! Not the vamps, of course. It was too sunny out.

The celebration kicked off precisely at 5:00pm, as restaurants opened and showcased their uniquely supernatural suppers. The Mystic Grill was buzzing with business and visitors dined on Salvatore Salmon Crostini and Vampire’s Kiss cocktails.

A DJ was spinning tunes from the show’s incredible soundtrack and local artists also performed for the waiting crowd. The Cork offered special discounts on Vampire Wine and, right next door, at Square Perk, Todd Lasance met with fans and signed a few autographs. If you don’t know who Todd is, he played the villain Julian on The Vampire Diaries. But, don’t fall for his villainous ways! Todd was an absolute gentleman and a thrill to meet. Did we mention, he's Australian?!

There were green screen photobooths, on the square, so visitors were able to create Mystic Falls memories to take home with them. Fans were also able to visit our special Selfie Stations, where they could take selfies with the stars (in cardboard cutout form) and post it directly to their social media accounts. The Ian Somerholder Foundation was also on hand, to provide more information about their worthy cause.

At 7:00pm sharp, Todd Lasance and Chris Brochu held a “Star Q&A” for the gathered crowd and Chris wowed the crowd with his amazing guitar skills. The duo also announced the winners of the Bite Night Raffle during their Q & A. The biggest winner goes out to Chelsea Holsinger, a newly wed, who was presented with a signed guitar from Chris Bouchu himself!

Raffle winners also scored a personal tour with Vampire Stalkers, a signed DVD of The Vampire Diaires season 7, a gift basket full of treats from Twelve Oaks, and a private visit to the Lockwood Manor. Lasance even thrilled fans when he turned the mike on the crowd and quizzed them on their Vampire Diaries knowledge. Then, as the sun set and the moon rose, the clock in the Courthouse tower struck 8:00pm and The Vampire Diaries Season 7 finale event began.

But, the party didn’t stop just because season 7 did! We’re vampires! Late nights are our thing. After the show, fans participated in several new tours from Covington’s Vampire Stalkers and Covington Ghost Tours. You could learn about Covington’s spooky spirits and tour the haunted graveyard and houses. Or, you could visit some filming sites from The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. from Chris Bouchu himself! Raffle winners also scored a personal tour with Vampire Stalkers, a signed DVD of The Vampire Diaries season 7, a gift basket full of treats from Twelve Oaks, and a private visit to the Lockwood Manor.

We couldn’t be prouder of Covington, aka Mystic Falls. Everyone who visited for Bite Night 2016, enjoyed a howling good time and went home with some pretty amazing swag. Thank you to the Newton County Tourism, Main Street Covington, and the CW for hosting the night. A huge thanks to our vampire darlings, Todd Lasance and Chris Bouchu for attending and being the friendliest fangers we’ve ever met.
