If you’re excited about the upcoming series of “Sweet Magnolias” or a fan of the author Sherryl Woods, you will definitely want to plan a visit to Covington, Georgia and get a peek at the filming locations. As a top destination for TV and film tourism, Covington has been the location for over 126 productions. The beautiful, quaint downtown area provides the perfect backdrop for this new romance drama that is set to premiere on Netflix. Filming began this past summer and is set to wrap up in the early fall.
Based on the popular novels published by Mira Books, a publishing imprint of Harlequin Enterprises, the series will follow three women (played by JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott and Heather Headley) who have been friends since childhood. The series delves into their lives as they try to balance life, career, and family.
If you have read the novels, you no longer need to imagine the setting for the plot. You can quench a bit of your curiosity about “Sweet Magnolias” by being at the very center of it all! Visit Downtown Covington, see real film locations and imagine the sight of the star-studded cast in action.
To get familiar with the new series, walk around the Covington Square and imagine how easy it is for everyone in town to be talking about Maddie Townsend, an over-exerted mother of three going through a divorce. Swisher plays Maddie, who has a cheating husband and an unlikely suitor.
The romantic drama comes alive as you walk through the Square and visualize the three friends sitting on a bench, laughing and talking as only best friends do. The setting is perfect for the romantic twists and turns told in “Sweet Magnolias”.
While you are downtown, check out two main locations that have seen a lot of filming action for the series.
Mystic Grill transforms into Sullivan’s Restaurant.
Mystic Grill is the prime location for Sullivan’s restaurant, a cherished spot that Dana Sue Sullivan owns in the movie. Played by Elliott, Dana Sue Sullivan is a talented chef who is trying to make things work with her ex-husband.
The Law Office of Tommy Craig is a site for exterior filming.
Take a short walk away from the Square on College Avenue to the Law Office of Tommy Craig. All filming to date at this location has been on the exterior, and we’ve heard the three main characters are opening up a spa here.
While there is no set premiere date yet, you can satisfy some of your excitement by visiting the filming locations. And if you have hit it right, you might have seen the actors on film day!
