#ForeverMysticFalls: Ian Somerhalder’s Favorite Covington Hangouts

hangoutsIan Somerhalder is having a terrific year. The actor just wrapped The Vampire Diaries, one of the CW’s most successful shows, and he has signed a multi-year production deal with Warner Brother’s Studios alongside his wife, Nikki Reed. Ian recently spoke to Explore Georgia for their 2017 Georgia Travel Guide about his admiration for our state and for the towns he has worked and lived in. He said, “The most incredible journey of my career thus far has been working in Georgia.”

Ian also has a special place in his heart for Covington, Georgia. This tiny town has been Mystic Falls for the past eight years of The Vampire Diaries. Ian told Allison Entrekin, “I love [Covington]. Not only because I’ve spent as much time in it as some residents, but also because it’s been very welcoming. This town has given us so much love and energy.” Ian has a few spots around town that have become his go-to hangouts and we’re giving you exclusive access to them.

Twelve Oaks Bed and Breakfast

Ian recently told Explore Georgia, “I’ve spent at least 100 nights in Covington in the last eight years. It’s a very special place.” Ian has also been spotted at The Historic Twelve Oaks Bed and Breakfast while they were filming The Vampire Diaries. This romantic inn has become an Ian favorite, with its spacious rooms and suites. There’s even a room dedicated to The Vampire Diaries: The Salvatore Suite.

Scoops

Located on the corner of the historic Covington Square, Scoops Ice Cream Parlor has become a local landmark. They hand-make over 32 flavors of ice cream and all of them are to die for. Ian seems to have a sweet tooth because he always stops in for a scoop of banana pudding ice cream. It’s become his favorite treat and the shop has renamed their concoction Damon’s Delight, to honor The Vampire Diaries star.

Mystic Grill

When The Vampire Diaries first came to town, the building that now houses the Mystic Grill was a façade. Ian told Allison Entrekin with Explore Georgia that “you’d come in the front door and it was a desk and filing cabinets and two couches. Now it’s this whole restaurant based on the one in the show-and I love their Mystic Salad.” You can eat like a Hollywood star and sample some delicious drinks anytime you wish because the Mystic Grill still serves visitors and locals alike. Belly up to the bar and sit where Ian filmed many scenes from his hit show.

You can visit each of Ian’s favorite hangouts when you visit Covington, Georgia! Simply stop by the Newton County Visitors Bureau and pick up a tour guide. You can also easily book a room and make your stay in Forever Mystic Falls a weekend long adventure. Who knows? You might even run into Ian Somerhalder. Anything can happen in the Original Hollywood of the South!
