Happy National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day!

Small businesses are the backbone of our community and play a huge, vital role for our economy. These local stores, restaurants, and shops are treasures that should be celebrated every day! And today, on March 29th, you can help celebrate National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day by visiting some of Covington’s favorite spots.

We love our local restaurants. Quik Chick, which has been a local favorite for over 20 years, is the best place to go when you need a quick bite to eat. Not only is it absolutely delicious fare, all of their vegetables and desserts are homemade. We highly recommend the chicken tender plate with their legendary honey mustard. We have no idea how they do it (the recipe is a closely guarded secret), but it may be the best thing on their menu!

But, if you’re in the mood for more of a sit down, stay a while, kind of meal head to Jim Stalvey’s Restaurant! Celebrate a birthday, an anniversary, or any occasion in style at this Covington institution, which has been serving citizens their steaks since 1980. And speaking of steaks, Stalvey’s has the best USDA grade steaks and the freshest sides available. Seriously, get the steak. It’s a local legend!

Now that you’ve had your fill of Covington’s fare, you’re in need of a new look. Why not check out Shelvie Jean Boutique on the Covington square? Shelvie Jean has everything you need to create a modern, stylish look at a wallet-friendly cost. Their clothing and accessories are unique and are handpicked by Shelvie Jean owners Judy and Allie. Then, step right next door to Brendale’s Salon and Stuff to browse their extensive collection of jewelry such as Pandora, Mark Edge, and Bourbon and Boweties, just to name a few. Brenda, owner of the boutique, also keeps the store stocked with perfect finds for the fashionista. These local merchants know fashion and are always available to offer advice on the latest trends.

And, once you’re done shopping for new looks, get something to spruce up your walls at Wild Art Gallery. Wild Art is the home for Covington’s local artists, a place where they can showcase their tremendous works. Stop in for interesting sculptures or portraits. Artwork not really your thing? Wild Art is also the meeting place for the newly founded Covington Ghost Tours each weekend, so you can get your spook on!

Owning your own business is a goal that many people strive for.  It takes long hours, hard work and much dedication.  A successful small business should be celebrated every day! From starting out to growing and expanding, “Mom and Pop” businesses generally offer superior customer service as the owners take personal pride in their operations as well as pride in their communities. So, visit these Covington gems and support your local Mom and Pop Business Owners Day!
