Hollywood of the South: The Odd Life of Timothy Green

Timothy Green

We are back with our movie installments! This week will be covering The Odd Life of Timothy Green. This family-friendly film will make you smile and remind you what is important in life—family!

Released in August of 2012, this Walt Disney film is a heartwarming story about love and family. The Odd Life of Timothy Green follows the story of Cindy and Jim Green, played by Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton, respectively.

After the realization that they could not conceive, Cindy and Jim are crushed. As a coping strategy, they write down what their perfect child would consist of on sticky notes and bury them in the backyard.

After a particularly bad storm, which resulted in a crater-sized hole in the backyard where the just-planted box once was, Timothy Green (CJ Adams) shows up in their doorstep.

Timothy Green is an odd child, with leaves growing from his ankles and calling the Greens mom and dad. They take him in, and introduce him to family the next day at a reunion. Quickly gaining acceptance with his awkward charm, Timothy is welcomed into the family by most.

At school, Timothy befriends Joni Jerome (Odeya Rush) after a bullying incident. They become friends, and Joni is influential in Timothy’s development for an idea to help save his dad’s job at a pencil factory.

That’s all I’ll give in the way of the plot. The problems they face will pull at your heartstrings, while reminding you just how much family means. This is a film for all ages, so would be great for a family night. Definitely add it to your list of films to be watching within the next few weeks!
