Hornyhead Festival to Happen Next Saturday

HornyheadEveryone mark your calendars for May 3! Next Saturday is the Hornyhead Festival, and it is sure to be a hit! Newborn will be throwing this annual festival, with everything circling around one little critter.

What is a hornyhead, you might ask? Well, this small but mighty fish is a big deal for Newborn, and will soon be for you! A Hornyhead can be used for bait or for a fun catch! From the Chubb family, this little fish can be distinctly picked out from all the bumps (or horns!) on its head!

There will definitely be a tournament celebrating the fish; registration will begin at 8, and anglers better have their fish in by noon if they want a chance to have their Hornyhead judged. Whomevers catch has the most horns will be the winner! Another winner will be chosen at this event, which is when the Hornyhead Queen will be crowned!

This festival is going to be packed full of great, fun things to do! Tad Pole bamboo poles will be lent to the youngsters who want to fish themselves. There will be tons of craft booths, children’s activates, and plant starts to bring in spring with. Eat BBQ from Where’s There Smoke while enjoying special guest Johnny Roquemore! He will be playing some great songs, including one about this critter with character; The Malloy Brothers band will also be playing some tunes.

The festival will be held at the Old Newborn Schoolhouse on Highway 142, and proceeds will go to helping restore the schoolhouse! We hope to see you then!
