Leadership Newton County Program

Nurturing Tomorrow’s Leaders since 1986

The Newton Chamber of Commerce firmly believes that today’s leaders have an obligation to nurture tomorrow’s leaders. With this conviction, they established the Leadership Newton County Program in 1986.

Sponsoring organizations and class members play an important role in the program by providing financial support and real-world experience.

The Leadership Newton County Program offers an excellent opportunity for those who are interested in making a difference in their community.

The goals of the program are to recruit a group of the area’s finest emerging leaders, representing a broad spectrum of the community, and to provide them with the skills and knowledge necessary to assume leadership roles.

The program is designed to identify, educate and motivate potential leaders in our community. Class members represent a broad spectrum of the community, including business, industry, education, government, non-profit organizations and civic groups.

The Leadership Newton County Program provides participants with an opportunity to learn about the community in which they live and work, to develop their leadership skills and to network with other community leaders.

We extend an invitation for you to participate as a sponsoring organization or class member.

We believe you will find the experience both gratifying and beneficial.

The Leadership Newton County Program

The Leadership Newton County Program is based on the premise that well informed citizens make the best leaders. The program is designed to expose community leaders and potential leaders to the many different aspects of Newton County and its municipalities.

Class members have the opportunity to gain or improve upon existing leadership skills.

They will also learn where and how they can get involved to help improve the community. The program is designed to acquaint class members with information on the organizational structure and unique features of the community.

It is also designed to encourage their participation in community affairs. Throughout the year, class members will have opportunities to learn about the county government, local businesses, schools, and non-profit organizations.

They will also have opportunities to meet with community leaders and learn from their experience. The Leadership Newton County Program is an excellent way for citizens to become more involved in their community and make a positive impact.

Selection Process of Members

Since its inception in 1986, Leadership Newton County has sought to develop the next generation of leaders in the community.

The program is open to all residents of Newton County, and selection is based on demonstrated leadership skills, active involvement in the community, and a commitment to invest the time required by the program.

Leadership Newton County is committed to selecting participants who represent a cross-section of the community, so that the diversity of perspectives will generate meaningful personal interaction and learning.

Through the program, participants have the opportunity to learn about the pressing issues facing Newton County, gain firsthand knowledge of how local government works, and develop relationships with other community leaders.

Tuition and Graduation Requirements

Tuition for Leadership Newton County Program is $895 for Chamber members, $1095 for non-Chamber members. Once an applicant is selected, payment is due upon the candidate’s affirmation of acceptance.

A total of five partial scholarships may be awarded with priority given to Chamber members. Applicants requesting scholarships must do so in writing at the time of application and your request for consideration will be held in utmost confidence and will in no way affect the selection process.

Each year Leadership Newton County class members are required to volunteer at one of the Chambers four signature events. Those events are the March Annual Meeting & Awards Dinner, the April Golf Tournament, the August Think & Thrive Women’s event and the October Membership Appreciation event.

To graduate from the Leadership Newton County program, participants are expected to attend all sessions, and conduct themselves in a professional manner.
