Lighting of the Square

You can feel it in the air, taste it on your tongue and see it in the windows of the shops on the square…the slight chill signaling the changing seasons, the warm, sweet liquid of coco and marshmallows and the festive wreaths beckoning you to explore the wonders hidden just inside the doorway. The holiday season is approaching!

In Covington, we DO LIKE US SOME CHRISTMAS and you won’t want to miss out on the most magical event of the year, the Lighting of the Covington Square. This spectacular event happens on Thursday, November 16th from 6pm-8pm.

Mr. and Mrs. Clause will need your help with the grand countdown this year, because it is going to be bigger and better than ever. Thousands of lights around the square will burst on to the scene, including those that grace the limbs of the City’s official Christmas tree.

This extravagant event will be unlike any other festival you’ve witnessed before and merely marks the beginning of the city’s Christmas activities. We have it on good authority that The Grinch may make an appearance in the coming weeks. We wonder if his heart has grown a few sizes over the summer. The only way to find out is to come out to Covington Square and ask him yourself!

Mark your calendars, saddle up your reindeer (or golf cart) and don’t miss the chance to listen to the angelic children’s choirs, get pictures with Santa and enjoy an old fashioned good time at the best little city square in all of Georgia.

Bring the family and start the holiday off in true southern style, filled with Christmas merrymaking and jubilee at the Lighting of the Square on November 16th.

Let’s spread some yuletide cheer, Y’all!
