Manic Monday: Mysterious Haunting of the First Baptist Church

First Baptist ChurchCalling all ghost hunters! We have a mystery to solve. Recently, a Covington resident shared an unbelievable picture with us, through Facebook. While photographing a wedding at the First Baptist Church of Covington, photographer Ashleigh Dees suggested that the wedding party go outside for a few snapshots. She scouted a perfect spot, just under a window along the side of the church. The wedding party looked stunning against its austere white walls and the afternoon sun was reflecting brilliantly against the windowpane. As the wedding party posed, Dees snapped the image and immediately previewed it on her camera.

But, when she did, she received the fright of her life. For, standing in the window of the First Baptist Church, was the shadowy, floating figure of a man. By all accounts, nothing supernatural had happened throughout the ceremony. And, the entire wedding party swears that there wasn’t a soul standing in the window, when the picture was taken. Yet, make no mistake. Ashleigh Dees captured a woefully invisible wedding guest, of the ghostly variety.

mysterious haunting

To make the mystery worse, there are no known hauntings to have ever been recorded at the First Baptist Church. In fact, we couldn’t find much about the church’s history either. The original church was established in 1823 as the Bethlehem Baptist Church. The church would grow and thrive until sometime after 1858, when the congregation became segregated. The actual dates of this split within the church community is unknown. What is known is that the white parishioners founded their own church building, and christened her the First Baptist Church of Covington.

But, that’s all we could find.

So, we’re calling all of our supernatural sleuths; we need your assistance. Do you known a bit more about the First Baptist Church and its history? Got any good stories of ghostly churchgoers or paranormal parishioners? Perhaps you’ve even witnessed “The Mysterious Man in the Window” for yourself. Send us your pictures! Tell us your tales! Inquiring minds must know.
