In a neighborhood not so very far away…
A force is awakening. Eager fans await the return of a day dedicated to saving the galaxy, the universe, and the Princess! Tomorrow is May 4th, or as fans of the film franchise Star Wars know it, May the Fourth Be With You. It’s Star Wars Day and there’s only one place in town where you can celebrate like a Sith Lord; the Newton County Library.
This tradition, of celebrating Star Wars on May the 4th, started rather organically. The day was chosen by fans as a day to celebrate their love for the Star Wars movies. Ask why you may? It’s obvious, Yoda. “May the Fourth” sounds an awful lot like “May the Force.” You can figure out the rest out from there. Grassroots fans and clubs perpetuated the pun until the first large organized event for Star Wars Day took place on May 4th, 2011 at the Toronto Underground Cinema.
Now, it’s Newton County’s turn to join the Rebellion. The Newton County Library is hosting their very own Star Wars celebration and you are cordially invited. Be there in your best Jedi robes because this event starts at 4 pm on May 4th. Starting then, you’ll be able to create your very own lightsaber to take home and make your own BB-8. You remember the spherical R2D2 from Star Wars: The Force Awakens?
Then, at 4:45 pm, put your Star Wars costumes on display! There will be a costume contest for the best Star Wars get up, where you could win some incredible prizes. G-Rated costumes only, please, per the librarian’s request! Stick around, because after the prizes have been awarded, the Newton County Library is screening a special showing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Adam Driver.
May the Fourth Be With You on May 4th, when you join us at the Newton County Library to celebrate Star Wars! We promise IT’S not A TRAP!
