We all know that Covington has become a haven for up and coming musicians, in addition to our scenic film and TV locations! With an abundance of creative minds and a wealth of local talent, it’s no wonder that so many artists and collaborators got their start in our city. For today’s Music Monday, we’d like to introduce our favorite up and comer, Drew Parker.
Drew Parker is a Covington, Georgia native and has been playing music since he was a child. By the age of 3, he was already performing for local church crowds who admired his voice and his skill with a plastic guitar. By the time Parker reached high school, the self-taught musician was able to play both keyboard and (a real) guitar.
Following in the footsteps of his favorite artists, like Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, and Waylon Jennings, Parker left our fair city in 2015 to pursue a spot on Season 8 of NBC’s top-rated show, The Voice. While in California, Parker performed for judges Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera, Pharrell Williams and Adam Levine of Maroon 5. Unfortunately, Drew did not advance to the next stage of the competition (we demand a recount!). But, our hometown boy did not disappoint us with his performance of Merle Haggard’s “Working Man Blues”.
To see an exclusive video about Drew's experience on the show, watch this interview conducted by the Covington News.
Nowadays, you can find the local celebrity preforming with The Drew Parker Band. This boot-scooting band has a sound that can't be resisted. If you happen to hear them, you will stay and dance your legs off until they leave. Drew sings a variety of Music, from Merle Haggard, George Jones, and Hank Jr. to Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, and Bob Segar. The Drew Parker Band is definitely a band that you want at your venue!! Don't hesitate to book him, we promise you won't regret it.
