Newton County Georgia is known for many things, such as its beautiful town and historic past; however, Newton County is home to a much more important thing – its schools. The Newton County public schools are equipped with great teachers, great students and a variety of opportunities for your children to get involved with positive extra-curricular activities. Recently, The Newton County Board of Education was recognized by the Georgia School Board Association for a very exciting award.
The Newton County Board of Education received GSBA’s (Georgia School Board Association) Quality School Board Status for 2014! This award is a great honor and all of the Newton County public schools are excited to have achieved this status! This recognition program is designed to celebrate school boards with excellent governance and leadership.
The Georgia School Board Association began recognizing schools with these excellent qualities because they believe that it helps foster community educational culture. Fostering good community educational culture will advance student learning and achievement. The Georgia School Board Association was one of the first school board associations in the country to develop an award such as the Quality School Board Status award. This award is a program of standards for local boards of education.
There are specific criteria a school board must achieve in order to win Quality School Board Status for the year. The criteria includes implementation of a strategic plan; they must meet the state board of education training requirements; review the recommendations of the Vision for Public Education in Georgia report; complete a self-assessment and develop recommendations for improvement; and comply with standards of all selected accreditation associations.
Congratulations to The Newton County School Board for meeting and exceeding all of the above criteria!
