In 2006, Newton Trails built a 1480-foot, concrete loop trail along the Yellow River in Porterdale, at the site of the Porterdale Yellow River Park. Useful now for fitness workouts and accessing the Yellow River Water Trail, this loop will be linked to the Historic Train Depot trailhead at Broad Street and eventually to Newton County’s planned Turkey Creek/Yellow River Greenway connecting to Turner Lake Park in Covington.

Visitors to the Eastside Trail can also use the bike lanes and sidewalks on Floyd Street to access Turner Lake Park in Covington, which features three miles of paved and unpaved walking and biking trails around the lake behind the Turner Lake Complex and ball fields. Follow the red (paved) loop trail to access the unpaved nature trails to an outdoor classroom, and learn more about the Piedmont Woodlands from signs located on the trails.
