Romantic Date Night Ideas for Every Couple

Calling all couples! Are you looking for that next place to visit for a romantic weekend getaway? Here are some romantic date night ideas that our area has to offer. We've highlighted some of the best spots in town to enjoy the perfect afternoon or evening together, depending on your interests:

The Movie Buffs:

For those of you who are film and tv buffs, Newton County is a gold mine of history and facts! Our rich history of film began in 1954 with A Man Called Peter, and continued into 1979 when the first five episodes of Dukes of Hazzard filmed here. Then, when our community became the setting of the TV series In the Heat of the Night, Covington became a popular camera-ready community and film hub. Since then, we have welcomed many well-known TV and film productions, such as: The Vampire Diaries, Prisoners, Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors, Flight, Remember the Titans, Miracles from Heaven, Sweet Home AlabamaThe Originals, Sleepy Hollow, and many more! The best thing about filming here is that our set locations are real-life historical buildings and homes, and not recreated on a sound stage. Many of the homes and areas featured in your favorite movies or TV shows can be visited by taking a tour or a leisurely stroll around our square. This is one of numerous reasons why we lay claim in Covington to being the original Hollywood of the South™! Contact our Visitor's Center with questions on the local sights and attractions, and stay in the gorgeous Twelve Oaks Bed & Breakfast, with each room themed to a different “Hollywood” production!

The Adventurers:

In addition to having a big draw for film tourism, we also have a lot of great rural areas and attractions for those of you who seek a bit more adventure. Splash into the summer on a romantic kayak excursion in local Porterdale, Georgia on the Yellow River. Our area of the Yellow River includes class II and some class III rapids, which are perfect for those seeking adventure! Contact Roth Wild Adventures for a guided trip, or more information on kayak excursions. They also offer paddleboarding, too! And the perfect place to book your stay is our brand new, beautiful La Quinta Inn & Suites. It's located just a few miles from the river in Porterdale, and the friendly staff would love to accommodate you during your trip.

The Music Moguls:

Covington has a somewhat small music scene, but still has live music offerings for those who enjoy a romantic night listening to good tunes. We occasionally offer live concerts right on the square, and local square merchants like the Irish Bred Pub and Mystic Grill host live bands, musical guests, and karaoke! We also have a fantastic music store, McKibben's Music, which is a Covington institution. Mac McKibben has experience working with many aspiring musical artists, including local celebrity Bo Bice who was runner up to Carrie Underwood on of Season 4 of American Idol!

The Wine Enthusiasts:

If you enjoy a good glass of vino, and your idea of the perfect date also includes a sommelier, then we recommend stopping by The Cork Boutique & Gifts, right on the square! Not only does The Cork have an amazing selection of wines and accessories, but they also have a growler shop right next door. Wine tastings are held monthly, which would be the perfect occasion to plan your date night in Covington. Then, grab an Uber ride from the square to a comfortable stay in our beautiful, brand new Holiday Inn Express & Suites, just a few short miles away from The Cork.

The Sweet-Tooth Sweethearts:

For those couples who have a sweet tooth and are constantly on the hunt for a delectably sweet treat, this one is for you! Visit our square to eat a fresh, house-made pastry at Bread and Butter Bakery, enjoy a delicious ice cream cone with a multitude of mix-ins from Scoop's Sweet Treats, or pop into Porterdale for a decadent cake design by Baby Cakes Bakery

These are just a few of the many great restaurants and attractions that we have to offer here in Covington, known as the original Hollywood of the South™. Book your stay at one of our many hotels, and plan a trip using these romantic date night ideas today! Contact the Newton County Visitor’s Bureau for questions or more information.
