Small Business Saturday in Covington Ga

This year join millions of shoppers who support their local community during Small Business Saturday. By shopping at our local, small businesses in Covington, Mansfield, Oxford, Porterdale, and Social Circle on November 30, 2019, you are joining the movement to support our local economy. In fact, for every dollar spent, approximately 67 cents remains in the community. That’s big news for Newton County!

Supporting Small Business Matters

The annual Small Business Saturday tradition brings communities together in support of small business and in turn these small businesses put the money back into our economy. Therefore, when you shop local and small businesses, you are helping to make an impact in your local economy. Not only are the owners more likely to spend the money they receive in their own community, that impact is also seen through their support of community programs and growth opportunities. Think about the sponsors you see supporting your son’s or daughter’s athletic and school events, local chamber events, community festivals, concerts, and parades.

Shopping Small has its Benefits

In addition to helping the local economy, you get benefits for supporting Newton County small businesses. Shop owners and their staff are customer service oriented, so you are likely to get great service consistently. When you shop there, you usually see the same smiling faces there to assist you in choosing the perfect gifts for your loved ones. In turn, the owners and staff make it a point to recognize and learn about your shopping preferences.

One of the nice things about shopping local with small businesses is that if you can’t find what you are looking for, they are more willing to help find it for you. Even if it isn’t in their inventory, small business owners use their resources to locate just what it is you are looking for. This customization sets them apart from the big box companies who have contracts with certain vendors that limit their inventory. In many cases, the big box companies are not only limited by what they can order, but by the colors and models. This helps them to get the quantities to price competitively in their stores, but it also limits them in providing the variety you want when shopping for holiday gifts.

How to Shop Local and Small

So, how do you support small business? Search out independently owned and operated companies that are limited in size and in revenue depending on the industry. Ask your family, friends and neighbors if they know of a local, small business when you are planning to shop for an item or need services for your home or auto. When you arrive at a shop, ask who the owner is, and you might even get introduced. Then simply shop – buy their products and services regularly.

While we encourage you to shop at your local, small businesses throughout the year, Small Business Saturday is a day set aside to specifically build awareness. Many of our local businesses will have specials running to help attract your attention. Learn more as specials are announced by following Main Street Covington and Downtown Social Circle on Facebook.
