Stop by Covington, Georgia as you drive on I-20

Turner Lake One of the things to do in Covington GeorgiaInterstate 20 is a popular highway to drive down when traveling through Georgia. The Hollywood of the South, otherwise known as Covington, Georgia, is one place you can hop off of when traveling down the highway. If you’re looking for a break after a long travel time, we have a list of things you can do to relax while you visit us.

  1. Take a hike on one of our many trails. Long car rides are hard. The best thing to do is get out of the car and stretch your legs. Luckily, in Newton County we have many trails that you can get out on and enjoy nature.
  2. After taking a well needed hike, you can peruse our historic Covington Square. I would suggest going on the historic home tour. This way you’re out of your car, but you are enjoying the unique history of the town. You can pick up one of the pamphlets easily at The Newton County Visitors Center.
  3. After all that walking you will have probably created a monstrous appetite! Then you can visit one of our delicious restaurants on the Covington Square. We have many options you can choose from; southern comfort food, Thai, barbeque, or much more!
  4. To wrap up your trip you can stay on the square and go on the Walk of Stars tour. Over 60 different films have filmed in Covington, Georgia, which gave us the nickname, the Hollywood of the South. Many of the films are commemorated in the stars around the square.

After enjoying our recreation, history, and Hollywood, you will be more relaxed and ready to finish the last leg of your journey. If we didn’t convince you enough, check out the Georgia’s Treasures Along I-20 article in Group Tour Magazine.
