Things to do in Covington: Candlelight Christmas Tour

Christmas-Lights-001If you are in search of things to do in Covington this Christmas Season, you should take a look at the Candlelight Christmas Tour, which is being held on December 7, 2013, from 1 to 7pm.  This tour includes six homes, five of which are located in Covington and the final one is located just outside of Covington in Oxford.  To read more about the Candlelight Christmas Tour as a whole read: Things to do in Covington: Candlelight Christmas Tour.

The final stop on this tour is at Church of the Good Shepherd.  This church is a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta, and dates back to 1950.  Back when the church was first built the congregation occupied facilities on Church Street in downtown Covington.  In April of 2008, a new church building, parish hall and office cottage on Clark Street in the Clark’s Grove development were built.

The newly built church is a Carpenter-Gothic-style church that features gorgeous hardwood floors, a spacious choir loft, and exposed wooden trusses which support the high ceiling of the nave, which is the main area of the church where the congregation meets for the service.  There are also two outstanding stained glass windows that were brought from the original building, to bring some qualities from the old church building to the new one. The two-story parish hall that was built at the same time as the church itself includes a large meeting room, kitchen, nursery, chapel and multiple rooms for small-group gatherings.

The Candlelight Christmas Tour is a great way to spread some Christmas spirit this holiday season and to view some homes from different eras.
