Three Spots You Can’t Skip When You Visit The Hollywood of the South


In the Heat of the Night CourthouseWhen you visit Covington, Georgia, you’re visiting the Hollywood of the South. One thing you might do when you’re visiting is check out some filming locations that are commonly used in TV Shows and Movies. With over 60 movies having been filmed here, you can easily spend the whole day touring the city! These are three spots we think you can’t skip seeing when you visit.

1. The Covington Square- The Square has been used for a multitude of movies. When you visit it you will be visiting the filming site of many different movies and TV shows. Some of the popular filming’s from the square are: We are The Titans, The Dukes of Hazard, and The Vampire Diaries. These are just a few short examples of the many movies that have been filmed on our scenic square.

2. The Covington Courthouse- while the courthouse isn’t always open for viewing, you can always see the outside. The inside of the courthouse has been used for popular scenes like the latest Footloose movie. While the outside of the courthouse is known for its use in the opening scene of In the Heat of the Night and many scenes from The Vampire Diaries.

3. Twelve Oaks Inn– This popular bed and breakfast has a beautiful history along with its Hollywood aspect. The house was used at the inspiration for Ashley’s house from Gone with the Wind. To follow that, it has also been used in commercials and TV shows.

These are only a few of the many filming locations you can visit when you visit us in Covington, Georgia. If you want to make a day of your Hollywood experience, make sure to pick up a locations map from the Newton County Visitors Center. That way you will make sure to visit the locations of your favorite movies.
