#TouristTales: The Brits Have Invaded Founder’s Day!

tourist tales

It’s a rare thing, to meet someone that you instantly feel becomes your friend. It’s even rarer to find two such people. So, when we met Lisa Alessi and Johanne Thomas, we knew it was a serendipitous moment.

We met Lisa Alessi and Johanne Thomas during the Founder’s Day celebration on March 10th. Like many True Fanpires, the two ladies were in town to see the series finale of The Vampire Diaries in Mystic Falls. But, Lisa and Johanne had traveled a bit further than most. The two hail from Gerrards Cross, in the United Kingdom. When they heard that this would be the final finale in Mystic Falls, they hopped on a plane and flew over 4,000 miles to be here. Naturally, we had to interview they dynamic duo for our Tourist Tales! What we didn’t expect was to find two such amazing new friends.

tourist tales We decided to treat the ladies to a V.I.P tour of Founder’s Day, complete with a behind-the-scenes hang out with stars Chase Coleman, Micah Parker, and Chris Brochu. As we settled in the green room, we asked Lisa and Johanne what drew them to The Vampire Diaries. “It’s my favorite”, Lisa said. She began watching the show when it first premiered in the U.K. Almost immediately, she said, she was hooked. Johanne soon became hooked as well, although they disagree on one thing; which Salvatore brother is cuter. Johanne prefers Stefan while Lisa likes bad boy Damon. Lisa told us that she feels like the themes within the show are the main reasons why she watches The Vampire Diaries. The stories about love, death, friendship, and grief “are so universal. It helps you through whatever personal struggles you may be dealing with.”

Johanne and Lisa also told us that this was their second trip to Covington, Georgia. They loved visiting our town because “everyone is so friendly.” Johanne said that “we’ve met such wonderful people and have made friends from all across Georgia. Your little village is so charming and such a great place.” The dynamic duo even braved the local Walmart, in search of supplies to stake out their place on the Square, for the finale’s premiere. They left with a tent, a few chairs, and, as Johanne put it, “an interesting experience.”

tourist talesSoon, the stars interrupted our chat to meet our visitors. Lisa and Johanne met with Chris Brochu, Chase Coleman, Micah Parker and the band members of Mercy Mode. Micah and Chase even compared stories with the ladies about their trips to Europe and to England. Lisa and Johanne got a chance to feel like a star, as they sat down to sign autographs and take a few photos with our roaming photographer.

As the sun set, we said goodbye to our new British friends. They proceeded straight to Scoops to meet up with a few local friends they had made on their last visit. And, to get a sample of Damon’s Delight, which is rumored to be Ian Somerhalder’s favorite! We enjoyed every minute with our two Brits Lisa Alessi and Johanne Thomas. Thank you so much for allowing us to feature you as our Tourist Tale. The next time you’re in town, we’ll treat you to a Vampire Bite martini at the Mystic Grill!
